The rules are confusing me. In SA2(B) Freestyle divisions, how is it possible to keep the speed boost from the previous life?

Step 2: Get another, before the first one wears off (within 14 seconds)
Step 3: Wait for that one to run out
Step 4: Die

Well, no. There is another method with Sonic and Shadow involving charging a light attack as time runs out, that only requires one speedshoe.

Crossing a checkpoint with 80-89 rings yields Speed Shoes. Thus, cross two checkpoints within 15 seconds of each other while holding between 80 and 89 rings to get two pairs.

Unless its a level with speedshoes in that are close enough to a checkpoint, though there arent many cases of that IIRC
